I can't say that 2024 has started out particularly marvelously. I tried to make blueberry muffins, overmixed them, and got gluey lumps. I found out that I've been blocked from someone's DW, which has thrown me into the kind of self-doubt and concern that one has when such things happen and you don't know why (like, did I do something? Do they regularly just cull less active friends? Or am I a horrible person who has said something offensive?). My car has decided to draw on its battery when it's off, again, which means 50/50 it will start.

We did, at least, sleep in. We have a nice meal planned for this evening. It's traditional for our family to make wild rice soup on New Year's Day, since we always spend the day taking apart our Solstice/Christmas decorations/tree. We also got up and brought in the dimes (wrapped in silk) that we always place outside of our door on New Year's Eve, so that, symbolically, we can bring in fortune for the new year.

Does your family have special New Year's Day celebrations? Anyone out there doing resolutions? I am making myself a kind of challenge for 2024, which is to try to have more of the fabrics I already have stockpiled in the house go out rather than brining too many more in. I am finishing up a Star Trek quilt with eyes on another one for a member of our group, but I usually only need a few specialized fabrics for those. So, it should be a do-able challenge. I am trying to think of it as a challenge rather than a resolution, however. I always fail resolutions. Usually I adore challenges.

You?

I did see and am stoked to read it! I haven't been alone for the last 36 hours or so though, so it's only now that I'm catching up on emails.

I'm a horrible person who's said offensive things and I'm okay with that.

(I was also blocked from someone's DW).

You, on the other hand, are awesome.

(I do, btw, regularly cull less active friends, but by "less active" I usually mean "hasn't posted in the last five years, so...)

On LJ I was blocked by someone who didn't block me on DW, so who knows? It's very easy to block someone's account by mousing over the user icon and clicking the wrong thing, so it's hard to tell. Mostly I like to know why I'm being dropped so maybe I can stop doing that, but sometimes the other person is just done and that's okay. Like you said, what can you do? Alas.

New Year's traditions: A friend used to go for Indian food for lunch on Jan. 1st at his fave restauarant, inviting lots of people to join him. The tradition continued for at least one January after he died, but I moved out of town and don't know if anyone still does that (fifteen years later, now). Such a tasty tradition, and someone else cooks and cleans! Win win.

I know. :(

I'm fairly certain that it was a random drop. I mean. I can't imagine why someone would be offended by anything you've said lately, and if they ARE offended (by what? cookies?) then clearly they have terrible taste.

There's a one of those in my history on this platform, and I find I am still puzzled by it. While I was never close to the person who culled my account from their list, I was interested in their enthusiasms, respected their expertise, spoke well of them to others. (We having met IRL.) It was long ago, now.

Not sure how to think about this, except to know that it is not a relationship that requires my further investment.

I have a LOT of changes coming up this year, so I'm going to use those instead of resolutions.

Except catching up on my email. Maybe that should be a resolution.

(Speaking of which, I did send you a reply about that letter writing rpg, not sure if you saw it. No worries if you've been busy.)

My name is not so unique as I thought!

I got caught up on a bunch of outstanding Xmas eve, and haven't received responses from anybody so there must have been a glitch on my end. I resent it, let me know if you don't get this one.
