 A geode
Image: a geode-like rock.

I have always picked up rocks. I have a rock collection going back to my tween years. Several years ago, Shawn bought me a rock tumbler, because, I guess, I needed one more hobby. But, so, when we stopped at Cutface Creek on our way back from Bearskin, I picked p a bunch of rocks that I thought it would be fun to see what the tumbler made of them. When I first pulled them out this morning (after almost of month's worth of grinding and polishing,) I was, initially, disappointed. But, on closer inspection, I think some of these are actually fairly spectacular.

shiny, polish rock of a marbled green and brown

a brownish-orange rock with deposits of something green.

Another rock with geode crystal pockets

Now, I just have to find a nice place for these beauties....

Those are some really fun, colorful rocks, especially the first two. I always get sucked into the rock-sorting game when I'm in the vicinity of the North Shore - supposedly "agate hunting." I don't think I've ever found an actual agate. Well, maybe a couple of low-quality ones about the size of a lima bean. But I have come home with rocks that look a lot like these, and periodically I unearth a rock polisher or two and polish some of them.

One way to display rocks like this is to put them in a small fountain or a nice clear jar of water. They look much better when they are wet, which is probably why you picked them up off the beach in the first place, right?
