I didn't end up at the benefit last night. We had a number of errands to do after school, so we didn't get home and fed until nearly six thirty, and I decided it would be more rude to show up while people were reading than not to come at all. Plus, I'll admit -- I was EXHAUSTED after cleaning. I scrubbed the living room floor as well as the kitchen (and cleaning the stove and doing the dishes). It took me all afternoon, but Shawn was elated.

Shawn woke up this morning to several presents. She collects jeweled animal boxes, so I got her a goldfinch (my favorite bird) jeweled box, plus several pairs of earrings (always a good bet with Shawn), and a purse she had her eye on at the National Geographic store. The purse actually got a squee out of her, because she asked for it YEARS ago and thought I'd forgotten.

She's taken the day off and is currently over at DSW shopping her heart out. Then we're going to head off to lunch OUT (a big f-ing deal, as the Vice President might say,) and then more shopping at various favorite places. Shawn loves to shop, it turns out. She even has dreams about shopping. Me, I dream about running from the police/breaking out of prision... but Shawn shops. She says the dreams are usually a combination of win: bookshopping and a bargain. She says sometimes she wakes up disappointed to discover that the dream wasn't real.

Anyway, I'm over at a nearby Borders Cafe keeping an eye on the store to see if she's out. I suspect she's only just warming up, despite the fact she's been in there for forty-five minutes already. I don't have the patience. I'm the "guy" in this part of the relationship: sitting on the bench, with the purse, looking miserable. :-)

But I brought a book. So I should be good for the shops without nearby internet cafes.

I hope you're all well. Before I go, I should report that Mason's class did NOT win the food drive. They came in second. Our old kindergarten teacher turned out to be a dark horse. We thought were competeing with the second grade teacher, but turns out sneaky ol' Ms. D. didn't report all their donations until the last day, when she blew everyone out of the water with over a thousand pounds collected. Still, she's decided to share the icecream party with the second and third place winners, so Mason will still get to celebrate.
