Okay, I woke up this morning ready to write. Honestly. It's a strange summer day. Cool to the point of almost being chilly, and I woke up with a very "ah, a good day for tea and a lot of writing." My brain was actually churning away on some Mouse ideas, and then...

I got back to the coffee shop after dropping Mason off at school and found a couple of notes from my editor Anne for Tate. She had the back cover copy for the new young adult project, ALMOST TO DIE FOR, as well as for HONEYMOON OF THE DEAD. Would I look them over? Of course, I did. And what they wrote for ALMOST sounds way better than what I have written, and, worse? Anne casually tells me that she tweeted about it the other day, describing it as "TWILIGHT meets THE PRINCESS DIARIES."

Holy sh*t.

Now the pressure's on. It's a good kind of pressure, really, but... well, I can only hope to live up to it. I mean, right now a lot of what I've written is a mess. There's still a psychic talking cat (it hasn't even morphed into a chinchilla or ferret or whatever it's really going to be) and it's a little, shall we say, darker than THE PRINCESS DIARIES, I think.

Still, I can't really complain. These are the kinds of pressures I always dreamed of having. But my brain has gone into full denial mode, and all I suddenly want to do is read the new Straczynski AMAZING SPIDER-MANs I picked up last night used at B&N (and HalfPrice Books).

In case you're wondering, I got:

51/492 "Digger"
52/493 "Dig This"

and two collected novels "Coming Home" and "Skin Deep." Anyway, they're looking much better than writing, which is suddenly amazingly scary.
