Rain, Rain, Rain...
Jun. 11th, 2008 09:59 amIn surprising news, it's going to rain any minute. It's been raining so much here in St. Paul that the radio weather announcers now talk about "the possiblity of scattered SUNSHINE today."
I have a ton of stuff to do before we leave town. Most of it is just housework -- dishes, garbage, kitty litter, fish tank maintanance, etc. -- but I've been really lazy lately. I don't know if it's the weather or what, but all I really want to do is play solitare on the computer... and nap. It's especially strange because I've been pretty fired up about RESURRECTION CODE. Although, I have to say, I've forgotten a lot about writing science fiction. I keep having to go back and layer in futuristic details.
I'm bummed I'm going to miss out on Wyrdsmiths. It sounds like everyone has been writing, which always means that the meeting will be high energy. I could really use an infusion of writerly enthusiasm.
Oh, it's raining now.
Speaking of that, my flower seeds popped. In our one sunny "annual" garden (that's in quotes because I've been slowly adding some perrenials, though the garden traditionally held only annuals), I planted marigolds and cosmos and other "easy" seeds that my mother passed on to me. Also, there's been a couple of huge bare spots in our yard due to shade, high-traffic, and neglect (we don't fertilize and I accidentally left a leaf pile in one spot over the winter.) I threw some grass seed down when there was sun and, by golly, we have grass now. It's kind of awesome. I keep saying to Shawn, "Well, heck, if I knew it was this easy, I'd have been re-seeding every year!"
Because of the constant rain people will mow the moment the weather permits. Last night, that meant some yahoo started his loud, gas-powered mower up at ten o'clock at night, just as Shawn and I were settling in. It was DARK out. This guy/gal mowed for a hour and a half. It was so noisy that I couldn't sleep. I kept expecting they'd quit. I mean, it was PITCH black outside. How this person managed to see what they were doing, I'll never know. Of course, just as I settled in in another room in the house farther away from the noise, they quit.
I need to get my butt over to Dreamhaven. I must have a veritable pile of comics waiting for me.
