Hawk Pictures and Guppies.
Mar. 12th, 2008 10:11 amSince Tate has a better blog for uploading photos, IMHO, I've put up the shakey pictures of our compost pile visitor at "The Predator is Back!" for your enjoyment.
Also, I thought I should tell you that we now have three new guppies: Egypt, Algeria, and Madagascar. Mason has decided to continue his African countries naming scheme, as these three are part of a trend that started with Kenya and South Africa. I also have to admit that at four-and-a-half, he knows four more African countries than I did (I knew about Egypt, but I would have been hard pressed to name another country in Africa at his age.)
The guppies might have to get their picture taken as well so that someone can tell me what EXACT kind they are. They're male, so they have an elongated, fan-shapped tail, are mostly yellow, with white bellies and some red/orange on the top. I think they're quite pretty, and Shawn has agreed that they don't fall into the category of "creepy" under which she places most fish, as far as I can tell. I like them because they're peppy. They're zipping around happily right now in their highly salted water. Having done my research before buying, I discovered that guppies like salt in their water, and fairly warm temps -- between 78 - 82 F. Luckily, I inherited some aquarium salt with the tanks, so I had that on hand. I'm going to have to get a test kit for salinity, but I'm not in a terrible hurry to purchase that -- having spent $18.00 on the fish. (Ah, if only fish were tax deductable.)
So, that's the fish situation. In other news, I had class last night, and now I'm exhausted -- having pumped myself up on caffiene in order to be moderately coherent. Plus, part of our new budget involves me drinking coffee at home instead of getting a latte at my favorite coffeeshop, and I have to say I can tell that I'm no longer getting a shot of espresso every morning.
