lydamorehouse: (shark)

For several days, Jacques hasn’t been coming out from under her shell, literally.  We have a fake coral thing that’s meant to be a pass-through for smaller fish.  It’s hollow.  When I thought Jacques might have off’d herself, that’s where I found her.  Every time I clean the tank, I’ve been tipping over the fake coral and spot her clinging to the “ceiling.”

I decided she was sad.

Yeah, go ahead, mock me.   But, my anthropomorphism only cost me ninety cents.

Probably I wouldn’t have bought her companions, except that Shawn was out of town.  Mason and I were on our own and I needed a few fish supplies anyway.  It wasn’t difficult to talk Mason into the idea that Jacque needed a friend… or two… or three.  (For the record, I suggested two and Mason thought we needed three.)

By chance, one of the shrimp the nice PetSmart lady caught for us was “berried.” She’s carrying eggs.  I guess I’m kind of hoping Jacques will feel matronly and be “Handel’s” partner the way Possum was for her.

I know.  I know.

Anyway, Mason’s named the new shrimp after composers:  Handel, Beethoven, and Tchaikovsky.

Funny story, while in the PetSmart, I was asking Mason what names he wanted.  He said Handel, then I said, “Oh, and what about Beethoven,” which he got very excited about, and then I said, “How about that other guy… the one who wrote that fairy song, uh, uh…”  He pipes up, “Tchaikovsky!”  The PetSmart lady looked at him and then at him, and nodded.  “Oh, he’s good,” she said.

Joe and Fergus continue to thrive…. It’s probably all that live baby shrimp.  (eek!)
